This is from a January 2009 interview with Joel Magnuson, author of “Mindful Economics: How the U.S. Economy Works, Why It Matters, and How It Could Be Different” — Part 1 of an economic analysis of the Democrats’ plan to re-invigorate the U.S. economic system. The plan, according to Professor Magnuson, is fatally flawed because it does not address fundamental weaknesses in the way the economy is structured. JOEL MAGNUSON, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized economist specializing in non-orthodox approaches to political economy. His recent book, Mindful Economics, was published last fall by Seven Stories Press.
